Baseball/Softball Chronicles ~ May 9th - 14th

Wednesday ~ May 11th

The Cubs vs. The Orioles

I was assisting in the scorekeeper box with a friend whose daughter played on the same team as Bethany the two years before this one. More or less we just talked a lot and I didn't really assist, but pictures from the scorekeeper's box are not always the easiest. I know I posted this picture on my 365 a few weeks back but I edited it just to make it different :)

Sadly, neither one of our daughter's got a hit on this night (although we had both been saying how much more consistent this season, ironic isn't it) and the Orioles went on to do what they do best.

Final Score: Cubs 7, Orioles 10

Thursday, May 12th

The A's vs. The WhiteSox

We got some great fans in the bleachers tonight!

The sun was perfect for getting some batting pictures in.

Walked again, but man is he getting good at his base stealing.

A little chit chat with the coach during a time out.

And of course, Bethany is always good for some quality entertainment!

This was her re-enactment of her slow motion "fall".

I climbed the fence for this great view of the team discussion after the game.

Final Score: A's 7, White Sox 5

Yay! They really do look like a playoff team!

The kids had Open House tonight too so after the game we zoomed back to the school to see the kids' class and all their fun work. I was busy chatting with other parents and this is the only picture I took!

Saturday, May 14th

The A's vs. The Giants

Waiting for his turn at bat.

Not sure why I didn't get more pictures this game but it was a great one! They played the second place team and won!

Final Score: A's 6, Giants 5

The Cubs vs. The Marlins

I think I posted this picture before too. Bethany played on the same team as this little girl two years ago and she also goes to our church so we see her often. It's fun when the kids play against kids they know. They always request pictures too.

This is how she measures the base. It cracks us up every time.

I guess I wasn't really in a picture taking mood on this particular day. While Elisha's team had a great win Bethany's lost to a team that hadn't gotten a win all season long. Oh well, I guess they had to win at some point.

Final Score: Cubs 4, Marlins 7

Bethany's final game of the season. This is her and her coach. Too bad I didn't see how bad the sun was glaring in the background or this would have been a better picture.

Baseball/Softball Chronicles ~ May 2nd - 7th

Monday, May 2nd

The A's vs. The Red Sox

I wasn't able to be at this game due to Life Group, but Yohn was able to take him. Unfortunately he did not take the camera so we got no pictures. Elisha hit a ball in field which eventually resulted in him scoring a point. That's the second time this season he actually hit the ball and didn't get walked and I missed it yet again.

Final Score: They couldn't remember, but the A's lost by a point.

Wednesday, May 4th

The Cubs vs. The Rays

Bethany and Harmony's teams face off again. We haven't had many hot days this year, but this was one of them. It was in the 90's even at 5:30 when the game started. The problem with the girls' field is there is no shade for the spectators so I spent most of the time huddled up in the shade of the scorekeeper box. Can you tell Bethany is just a bit too hot?

Harmony on third. The girl rarely strikes out. Although next year there is no coach pitch so she's gonna have to learn how to hit off of the kid pitchers and not rely on the coach to come in. Still, when she hits them, she really nails them!

Bethany had a great hitting game! Even hitting off of the kid pitcher again this time around.

And yes, she's not afraid of sliding, even with her socks pushed down and her pants pulled up.

It's times like this when I wonder why her coach lets her play the in field. I also pray she does not get hurt!

One of the coaches promised Slurpees for the big win from Saturday and this one the PERFECT game for them. You can see from the picture and her rosy red cheeks and her wet stringy hair that she was sweaty.

Final Score: Cubs 13, Rays 14 (They barely pulled off the win)

Friday, May 6th

The Cubs vs. The Orioles

(continuation of the game from April 7th)

I love this picture...

This game was so odd. Since it hailed on us on April 7th we had to start where we left off. Bottom of the second, one girl on third, no outs and our batter had one strike and one ball against her. It felt so weird to start like that. Oh and the Orioles had 3 points and we had zippo.

While it looks so nice and sun shiney out it was soo cold. The warm temps we had on Wednesday gave way to cooler temps and on this particular evening it was in the 50's with a biting wind. In the end the Cubs couldn't overcome where we started from. The oddest part was this game lasted as long as a regular game, even though we started in the bottom of the second.

Final Score: Cubs 11, Orioles 16

The A's vs. The Cubs

Getting a little instruction from the coach...

Elisha had a game the same night as Bethany's make up game so we were running back and forth between the two fields all evening long.

If I remember correctly Elisha didn't make it to base one time tonight, but he had some mad skills in the outfield. Backing up first, second and third in the different positions. The boys did great pushing the Cubs to play hard. The Cubs are the number one team in the minor league, and the A's have not played as good as they did this night all season long.

Final Score: A's 7, Cubs 7

(yep, they tied them, the sun went down ending the game before there could be an official winner)

Saturday, May 7th

The Cubs vs. The Tigers

Back at the fields bright and early the next day. This game was a very "tumbly" game for both teams. What I mean by that is there were a lot of girls hitting the ground today. We had one girl trip over a bat and roll across home plate. Their girl slid into third wrong falling over the top of the base. Their catcher tripped over her untied shoe laces and landed hard on her shoulder. But the one that took the cake (and no, it was not Bethany)...

was when one of the girls was hitting off of the coach pitcher who happened to be her mom. She hit a great ball to the third baseman who caught it, then ever so slowly dropped it. The girl and her mom only saw the catch and started walking back to the dug out. Meanwhile, we're all shouting for her to Run! Run! third base dropped the ball! When the coach realized what had happened she shouted, "Oh my goodness! Run!" and shoved her daughter to the ground by accident. Amazingly enough, the girl was able to get up and still make it to first base safely. But she certainly gave her mom a scolding when she got back to the dug out. :)

Goooo Cubs!!!!

Final Score: Cubs 13, Tigers 14

Torturing the dog as he's tryin' to sleep. :0)

He's crackin' me up with his slapping his glove as he cheers for his pitcher.

Saturday ~ May 21st

Her team didn't make playoffs this year so but she still wanted red and blue hair before the season was over.

I finally saw him get a hit today right into center field!

And I also got a beautiful gift from my girlie.

Have a great week!

Baseball/Softball Chronicles ~ April 25th - 30th

Tuesday, April 26th

The A's vs. The Pirates

Getting a little bit of coaching before going up to bat.

I'd love to say that coaching resulted in a hit, but Elisha got on base anyways because the pitcher walked him.

Which resulted in a run home and a point on the scoreboard!

Final Score: A's 11, Pirates 5

Thursday, April 28th

The Cubs vs. The Angels

Thursday night found me in the scorekeeper box for Bethany's team. So you'll see some of the pictures have that fancy fence frame. :)

Bethany did a great job getting on base every time up to bat!

Resulting in a trip across the plate two out of those three times on base. Can you tell she likes to slide? Check out that smile!

The fact that she got a hit every time at bat (even two off of the kid pitchers!) she also got her second game MVP!

Final score: Cubs 7, Angels 10

Saturday, April 30th

The A's vs. The Indians

Up first for the day at the crack of dawn (okay not quite that early but we were at the fields early enough) was Elisha's team.

Getting walked once again today, he seems to be good at that.

Leading off... he's really starting to enjoy stealing bases. It still makes him a little nervous but he's getting better at paying attention to both his coach and where the ball is. Trusting the coach is key though and he's learning not to second guess and just run and slide if necessary. Now if only we can get him to keep his shoes tied... :)

Final Score: A's 5, Indians 14

Let's just say none of us could understand how the A's could have lost this game. A hard day indeed.

The Cubs vs. The Blue Jays

On this day, Daddy was scorekeeping,

Bethany was outfielding,

and in fielding,

and getting on base,

and scoring the winning point! (and Mommy was obviously behind the camera, and Elisha was off running around with his friends)

Okay I already wrote about the hero story on my 365 a few weeks back but in case you missed that recap here it is...

The score was tied, bottom of the sixth, two outs, full count, Bethany hits and makes it to first base (on an error), then steals second, then third and waits to be batted in. K comes up and gets a great hit, makes it safely to first and Bethany comes in with the winning run!

And now you know why I love this time of year and am going to be sad if Bethany decides this one is her last :(

Final Score: Cubs 7, Blue Jays 6
