Baseball/Softball Chronicles ~ April 25th - 30th

Tuesday, April 26th

The A's vs. The Pirates

Getting a little bit of coaching before going up to bat.

I'd love to say that coaching resulted in a hit, but Elisha got on base anyways because the pitcher walked him.

Which resulted in a run home and a point on the scoreboard!

Final Score: A's 11, Pirates 5

Thursday, April 28th

The Cubs vs. The Angels

Thursday night found me in the scorekeeper box for Bethany's team. So you'll see some of the pictures have that fancy fence frame. :)

Bethany did a great job getting on base every time up to bat!

Resulting in a trip across the plate two out of those three times on base. Can you tell she likes to slide? Check out that smile!

The fact that she got a hit every time at bat (even two off of the kid pitchers!) she also got her second game MVP!

Final score: Cubs 7, Angels 10

Saturday, April 30th

The A's vs. The Indians

Up first for the day at the crack of dawn (okay not quite that early but we were at the fields early enough) was Elisha's team.

Getting walked once again today, he seems to be good at that.

Leading off... he's really starting to enjoy stealing bases. It still makes him a little nervous but he's getting better at paying attention to both his coach and where the ball is. Trusting the coach is key though and he's learning not to second guess and just run and slide if necessary. Now if only we can get him to keep his shoes tied... :)

Final Score: A's 5, Indians 14

Let's just say none of us could understand how the A's could have lost this game. A hard day indeed.

The Cubs vs. The Blue Jays

On this day, Daddy was scorekeeping,

Bethany was outfielding,

and in fielding,

and getting on base,

and scoring the winning point! (and Mommy was obviously behind the camera, and Elisha was off running around with his friends)

Okay I already wrote about the hero story on my 365 a few weeks back but in case you missed that recap here it is...

The score was tied, bottom of the sixth, two outs, full count, Bethany hits and makes it to first base (on an error), then steals second, then third and waits to be batted in. K comes up and gets a great hit, makes it safely to first and Bethany comes in with the winning run!

And now you know why I love this time of year and am going to be sad if Bethany decides this one is her last :(

Final Score: Cubs 7, Blue Jays 6

Sunday ~ May 8th

Me, my kids, and some sweet Mother's Day presents. :)

Monday ~ May 9th & Tuesday ~ May 10th

I got nuthin'. Sorry. My son got a new haircut and I planned to take a picture and post it for one of these days, but I forgot and today he is wearing a hat.

Wednesday ~ May 11th

I was playing with some edits can you tell by this picture and Thursdays?

Thursday ~ May 12th

Friday ~ May 13th

My baby is having some tooth problems and didn't sleep well so she stayed home today while we attempted to get all the insurance and other issues ironed out. We didn't, but she is doing well right now and after Friday's day of rest she was her normal hyper self on Saturday. We just have to take extra precautions each time she eats anything until we can get her in. That and anytime she has pain we provide a little Tylenol. If you think of it will you pray we get this all worked out this week?

Saturday ~ May 14th

The A's had a great couple of games this week and are really looking like a playoff team. Let's hope they make it!

Bethany and the little girl pitching were on the same team two years ago and also go to the same church. It was fun watching them face off.

That's it for another week down, next week I pray we will have some results for our girl. Until then click on the buttons at the top of the post for more 365 fun!

Baseball/Softball Chronicles ~ April 18th - 23rd

Tuesday, April 19th

The Cubs vs. The Rays

Bethany has been fairly consistent on hitting off of the coach this season (in the level she plays at she gets pitched to from a kid pitcher first and if they throw three balls then the coach can pitch however many strikes the child has left).

This would have been a great picture had I had my camera on. Bethany slip in between the catchers legs to get home safely. It was a great play and I missed it! I managed to get this shot after the catcher had walked away.

I forgot to mention that the Rays are Harmony's team and at this point they were undefeated. Bethany was determined to hit a pitch off of Harmony and she did, too bad it was a foul ball. It was the first time she hit off of a kid pitcher.

This game was a nail biter the whole time. Sadly the Cubbies did not finish with the win.

Final Score: Cubs 12, Rays 13

Wednesday, April 20th

The A's vs. The Cardinals

It was cold, windy and dark this game so unfortunately this is the only good shot of my boy I got while sitting in the score keeper box. It was also a very fast paced game and I can't take a lot of photos and keep track of the umpire at the same time.

Elisha did okay, playing the outfield the whole game, but being right where he needed to be when he needed to be there. Our coach caught a kid leaving the base before the ball crossed the plate (a big no no) which resulted in an out. The funny thing was it was only the second out and he thought it was the third and called our boys in. The other coach called his boys in too (with a boy on first and third) which left me totally confused. How did I miss the third out? I called the ump over and he said he only had three outs too but the coach pulled his boys off of the field too late now. Just before starting the inning the Cards coach caught it and asked me what was up. Thankfully the umpire (gotta love 'em sometimes) asked him why he didn't know how many outs his team had. I really thought I'd hear about it later since his daughter plays on the same team as Bethany.

Final Score: A's 5, Cardinals 8

Saturday, April 23rd

The A's vs. The Yankees

Grandma Yvonne came to watch today's games bringing with her Easter goodies.

Last day score keeping for Elisha's team so this is the pic I got this time (It gets better once I'm outta the scorekeeper box so bare with me). *Sigh* Not much to say about this game. Several of our good batters didn't even touch the ball or get on base today, Elisha included.

Final Score: A's 2, Yankees 9

The Cubs vs. The Tigers

I know I already posted this pic on my 365 a few weeks back but I love the action in it. I really don't think it needs much explainin'.

Bethany got another chance to play the in field, although I am a bit surprised she was allowed to stay there. Let's just say her gram gave her just a bit too much sugar (unbeknownst to me) and well, she was more than her already normal hyper self.

But she did chase every ball that came any where near her, and even a ton that did not :)

And loved being a part of the in field huddle.

Our umpire got hit in the head from a bad pitch and suffered a mild concussion and had to be taken from the game. We had a coach ump the rest of our game.

Final Score: Cubs 13, Tigers 8

Baseball/Softball Chronicles ~ April 11th - 16th

April 12th, 2011

Cubs vs. Angels

My kids had back to back games on two nights this week and because I was score keeping I could not make it to Bethany's game. Thankfully Yohn was there to watch her overcome her fear of getting hit (she was hit by the kid pitcher the last game and was afraid to bat) and saw her play well in the outfield.

Sadly, the Cubs brought home a loss due to the base umpire having something against our coach and taking away her daughter's home run. We recently re-played that team and I had a mom tell me most of the parents of the Angels thought the call was made unfairly, so you know that it wasn't just our team complaining it was a bad call.

Final Score: Cubs 12, Angels 13

A's vs. Dodgers

It was such a cold night, can you see Elisha is wearing both his jersey shirt, undershirt and his cold gear underarmor (Bethany had on the same layers)? I had to make my kids wear all three shirts because they were convinced they were going to be too hot. I am sooo glad I insisted because they were still cold at the end of the night.

The A's did a decent job, but kind of gave it up toward the end. Elisha played on third base for two innings and covered it well. Here he is checking the guy on second to make sure he's going back where he belongs.

Final Score: A's 6, Dodgers 8

April 14th, 2011

Cubs vs. Marlins

Both kids played at the same time on second night this week. Thankfully I was able to get someone to cover scorekeeping for Elisha's team so I could run the two fields and see some of the action for both games. Bethany had some great hits, one of which resulting in a run home.

And, as usual, she was her usual cute self in the dug out. She certainly loves being involved in the team cheers and you can almost always pick her voice out when they are shouting for their team.

Final Score: I forgot to write it down :( but I am pretty sure it was a loss because this was a tough week for our girls and so, so very cold.

A's vs. Giants

Elisha moving to back up the first baseman.

There were so many boys on the Giants team that we knew from other teams that oddly enough, I took more pictures of their team than ours. Elisha likes to have pictures of the kids he knows. This was another tough game and seemed like our boys were just not in it tonight. However, Elisha got a great catch out in right field resulting in a third out ending the inning and leaving two boys on base. It was so great to see him do it too, as he stepped up and caught it was such confidence. A very proud mama moment.

Final Score: A's 2, Giants 10

April 15th, 2011

Cubs vs. Orioles

Yes, Bethany's third of the week. Tonight's was a make up game though. This is Bethany's new routine for getting herself in the right place in the batter's box. She places her bat in the middle of the plate then leans on it to adjust her feet, then gets in her batter's stance. Seeing it makes me giggle.

Her coach is telling her when she is told to steal second she had better run fast!

The Cubs were unfortunately losing by so much they did not have a chance to catch up so Bethany's coach asked them where they wanted to play. Bethany played first base and had us all cracking up with her little focused face. She does sooo much better paying attention in the in field but is not really ready for it full time yet. Still, it was a lot of fun to watch her excite.

See! Can you see how happy she is? She earned a star for this play because the base umpire said she made the out (even though those of us in the stands could have sworn the batter beat her to the base).

Final Score: Cubs 4, Orioles 17

Whew! That was it for this week as both teams had the weekend off.
